Hey everyone! Thanks for checking out this latest edition of Furry Weekly, where we bring you a weekly dose of furry content!

Before starting, we want to remind you about our usual announcements you’ll see below, but particularly the Recruiting section. We still need quite a lot of help to keep doing new issues every week, so we hope you will consider looking at the roles we’re looking to fill and maybe join us! If you want to get more involved in the fandom, if you like writing, or if you like certain aspects of the fandom, this could be something for you! If you just want to get to the content for today’s issue, you can also scroll ahead to the Content Lineup!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

BREAK

We usually take a break from publishing an issue for one week after we post four consecutive issues. If you have kept up with us in 2025 so far, you probably know that we’ve had to delay a lot of issues because of our staffing situation. While today’s issue does not mark four consecutive issues, we do want to take a break this week of March 17-23 so our staff can regroup! Our goal is to get back to weekly issues since we are Furry Weekly after all, we’re just trying to manage with our current staffing situation while of course bringing in more folks who can help, which you will read about below. You can expect issue #316 the weekend of March 29-30!

We’re always looking out for what you, our readers, have to say about Furry Weekly! Like we said above, our goal is to showcase a little bit of everything in the fandom, especially giving a small spotlight to all kinds of creators and folks in the community. So we want to know what you think about what we’re doing now as well as what you might want to see from a furry magazine. So whether you’re an avid follower of Furry Weekly, or maybe you just found us, we want to hear what you like, what you don’t like, and what you would like us to do in the future! That’s why we have a short survey on this topic. We would seriously appreciate it if you took just a few minutes to take it and give us your feedback! You can do this multiple times as well! ART CORNER

Hi everyone, it’s Yeshua here bringing you the Art Corner segment for this week! This is where we show off some of the great artwork done by artists in the fandom! I do want to mention that we’re looking for another host to help write this segment every week, so if you enjoy furry art and maybe even writing about it, this could be something for you! Just reach out to me if you’re interested in potentially hosting this segment. Now, let’s check out today’s featured pieces!

Digital artwork of a scaly character standing in the water in front of an island, posing and pointing toward the sky.

The first piece comes from Rafu, and what a way to start the segment! Rafu gives us a full illustration with pretty much every big element you could ask for: a subject, an environment, and extensive color work! We’ve got a scaly character whose species I couldn't quite pinpoint until Rafu told me it's a lizardfolk from Dungeons and Dragons! Although not quite an allligator, a fun detail is the shirt that says "DO NOT PET THE SWAMP PUPPIES." It's pretty funny but also very fitting for this character! Now, Rafu’s anthro style is brilliant, combining human characteristics like the body shape, muscles, and more, with the animal characteristics like the snout, the claw on the pointing finger, and of course that awesome, long tail! Plus, the character looks so full of confidence and personality, posing and smirking at the viewer!

As for the environment, while it’s easy to think that this is just a beach, the palm trees in the sand, the green hills in the background, and the clear aqua water make this seem like the character is just off the shore of an island, which is a really cool setting! I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how well Rafu executed the sun and sunlight effects; it – along with the water – is arguably the most realistic-looking element of the piece that actually fits nicely in what’s more of a toony style. I could probably write quite a lot more about this piece, but I covered what seemed to be the biggest elements to me! Phenomenal work, Rafu! I’m excited to see more artwork from you!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Collage showing a traditional piece of an anthro dog laying down holding a neon glowing heart, one picture showing the piece with blacklight lighting, and the other picture without blacklight lighting.

It’s not often that we get to show artwork with more than one variation, but this one by Goodboi was too good to pass up – showcasing one of the coolest art styles I’ve seen recently! First I gotta briefly mention the medium. It might be hard to tell, but the canvas here is actually a wooden block with a postal stuck to it! As for the artwork itself, it’s a wonderful combination of acrylic and paint markers! Part of what makes this piece so good – and the artist’s style in general – is the lineart. There’s different weight throughout the character that helps define each part nicely, and also just makes for a sort of comic book-esque style that’s fantastic.

For a character with such a simple design, Goodboi really makes the color shine as well. The character’s fur has a subtle depth that’s taken to a whole other level with the colorwork from the glowing heart he’s holding! The neon look is executed tremendously, and the bright pink glowing on the character’s body is a huge part of this, especially when you put it under a black light as the piece explodes with color and detail, along with some hidden text!

There’s so much more I’d love to talk about with this piece, but of course this is meant to be a short review. I will say, though, stay tuned because I may or may not have more from Goodboi in another segment here in the magazine soon! I’ll give you a hint: it’s the other segment I wrote this week! Either way, this is some phenomenal artwork from Goodboi!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Digital artwork showing an elevated view of an anthro fox sitting on a bench outdoors holding a cup of what could be coffee or hot chocolate, with orange leaves on the ground around the character.

Closing out the segment, Kitten offers us this lovely full body piece! The artist’s style is just such a joy to see! It’s an anthro style with a small hint of kemono style as you can see from the small snout and sharp shape of the eyes. Plus, the anatomy is on point everywhere you look, and the character looks so natural the way they’re sitting and smiling slightly, showing how good Kitten is at drawing poses and expressions! I just love how mellow the character looks, which combines well with the environment of the piece, which I’ll get to in a second! I just want to also mention how great the lineart and coloring are. For the most part, the lineart is soft but defines each part of the piece nicely, and I love the subtle parts of the lineart that make the character’s fur stand out! As for the coloring, it’s all solid with some shading and shadows that really complete the piece and elevate it!

Right now it’s near the beginning of spring for me, but wow this piece makes fall feel so much closer! Although the environment is not overly complex here, the orange leaves both in a pile and scattered on the ground along with the brown ground make for a great outdoor autumn setting. Adding to this detail is the character wearing a scarf and having what looks like could be hot chocolate or coffee for a drink. This is a very cozy piece which isn’t something you see often with outdoor scenes, but Kitten did an excellent job with it! What a treat!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Wow, what a lineup of artwork we just went through, huh? I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed talking about it! Huge thanks to Rafu, Goodboi, and Kitten for sharing their work, and I can’t stress how much I recommend giving them all a follow if you want to see some stunning furry art on your social feeds!

If you want to see your artwork in this segment, you can reach out to our usual hosts, Pony or Purple, or you can also message me as well and I’ll make sure we make note of your artwork! You can also email us at furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com or fill out our form to send us any art you’d like to see on here!

Thanks so much for checking out today’s Art Corner segment! I’ve been Yeshua, and I hope to see you all again soon! Until then, take care!

SPECIES SPOTLIGHT

Howdy there folks, and welcome to this week’s Species Spotlight! My name is Razzle and I’ll be your new host for Species Spotlight! I’m a big old nerd of all sorts of things, and original species are pretty high on my list.

In fact, for this week's spotlight, we’ll be looking at a species I was introduced to at an original species nerd-out panel at this most recent AnthroExpo. I got to briefly meet and listen to the creator talk all about these guys, so I’m super pumped to introduce them to you all.

Now, I’m happy to make your acquaintance and let's check out that glowing spot, just over yonder.

Petralyn Waving

What Makes a Petralyn?

Created by Echolepzy, Petralyns are fluffy, anthropomorphic, little mammals that spend most of their time in very dark environments and are generally subterranean. They hail from the planet of Aeriosis but can be found in scattered pockets across the universe if you know where to look.

As a society they are fairly technologically savvy, but their real magic is… their magic! On Aeriosis there is a force called “The Aether,” part deity, part light energy, all important. The Aether is the life source of all Petralyns and their connection to it is where their magic comes from. This life source is called their spark, and can come in any color, or even be multicolored; it determines the color of a Petra’s magic, and even sometimes their blood.

Petralyn Anatomy

Anatomy of a Petralyn Diagram

Petralyns have some pretty specific anatomy, so let's take a closer look.

Like I said earlier they are anthros, but specifically, they are plantigrade anthros. They have tails that start skinny and then get wide at the tip. They have big and floppy ears. Horns, antlers, or antennae sit on top of their heads. Clawed paws that don’t have pads or toe beans are both their hands and feet. Petra noses and muzzles are a mix of canine and feline. Their eyes are dark, but can be any color, with pupils that change shape based on emotion; these shapes are specific to each individual. As mammals they have fur, and while it is short, there is plenty of it: they are fluffy!

And for the anatomy you are probably the most excited for: they have glowing markings! Petralyns can have as many or as few markings, patterns, and colors as long as there is at least one glowing marking on them somewhere. Their spark is again what makes their marking glow, but it also makes their pupils, blood, and by extension their blush glow.

Glowing Marking Guide

How to Make Your Very Own

Petralyns are an open species so you can make all the Petralyns you want as long as you follow some simple guidelines. Make sure they have all the required anatomy detailed above and don’t use any of the banned traits I am about to outline:

Wings (organic or mechanical), feathers, scales, spines, ridges, forked tongues, fins, gills, frills, webs, a small third eye, changes to the snout, paws, tail shape, or ear style are all traits a Petralyn should never have.

In general, have fun, but make sure they stay mammalian and don’t depart too far from the general silhouette they’re supposed to have and you are good to go!

Looking for more lore and information or clarification? Check out this quick breakdown on FurAffinity, or for the most information check out this amazing step-by-step guide to Petralyns Echolepzy made on Scratch.

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Thanks for stopping by and reading this week’s Species Spotlight. I hope you all enjoy learning about Petralyns as I did! Once again, it’s a pleasure to be your new host and I have a whole catalog of species ready to write about and have my eyes peeled for even more critters.

Ready for us to explore your original species? Feel free to fill out this form if interested. You can also submit content by emailing furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com.

ANIMAL OF THE WEEK

Hello animal enthusiasts, and welcome to another edition of Animal of the Week! This is Danielle once again popping in as a guest appearance.

Animal of the Week is a segment where we highlight a real or, on a rare occasion, fictional animal with an adoptable character inspired by it. The best part? All proceeds from the adoption will be donated to a conservation charity! While symbolic adoptions are made when possible, additional funds are donated to various wildlife causes, rehabilitation programs, and scientific research for lesser-known species. Join in on the fun adventure and support these amazing animals with us!

This week, we’re honoring Saint Patrick’s Day with the unicorn!

Despite there being no direct historical or traditional connection to Saint Patrick’s Day or Irish folklore, unicorns are sometimes playfully incorporated into celebrations often in the form of a leprecorn (a leprechaun-unicorn hybrid) or as a fun, whimsical addition to the holiday’s imagery. Unicorns have a rich and varied mythology, stretching across different cultures and time periods. In most traditions, unicorns are portrayed as mythical creatures with a single horn on their foreheads.

The unicorn has evolved into a beloved fantasy creature in modern literature and popular culture. It is often depicted as a shy, magical, and gentle being with healing powers, the ability to sometimes grant wishes, and seen by the pure of heart. They are associated with themes of purity, innocence, grace, elusiveness, and power. In some cultures, the unicorn was seen as a symbol of royal power and divine favor, especially in heraldry.

Adopt

This unicorn-dragon hybrid adoptable is available for $10 and was colored on a base by Armundy. All funds from this adopt will help go towards an animal conservation of Zed’s choosing. Zed is currently the main segment host of Animal of the Week. Please contact me to claim it.

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

A huge thank you goes out to the animal ambassadors and Animal of the Week supporters who have helped make the world a little bit better for wildlife.

If you wish to help support us, you can find Zed’s Patreon for this passion project here. You can also find adoptables, free to use bases, and pay to use bases by Zed on their website.

As Coyote Peterson from Brave Wilderness says, stay wild, and we’ll see you on the next species adventure!

Labratkuma shines the most in their animations and animated YCHs which are silly, goofy, and cute; some are even ideal for couples and would make for a great gift for a partner. Most are in a chibi style and are either simple actions like snoring or kissing – but some also reference memes like the Polish Cow YCH.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW

Hey you all! It’s Yeshua here to once again bring you the Character Interview segment! If you haven’t read one of these before, this is where we take some time to get to know what some of the folks in the fandom get up to!

YESHUA: I'm excited to chat with today's guest, Rokyo! Thanks for making time to talk! For those reading about you for the first time, mind sharing a bit about you and what you get up to here in the furry fandom?

Artwork of Rokyo, a black fox with green hair, eyes and markings.

ROKYO: Sure thing! I’m Rokyo, a digital artist who started posting online back in 2009-ish, and have been on a constant journey to learn new mediums and expand my art into new things. I'm always up to trying anything out!

Currently my art journey has landed on cross stitching and it's just been so fun!

Outside of art I mainly do in-home caregiver services for a medical patient.

I'm mostly a fly on the wall furry but have a wonderful time creating and seeing what others create! Not really much to me!

YESHUA: Oh wow, you've been around for a while! Even if you do some spectating, it sounds like you have some cool experiences with art! Let's see what we can get through during our conversation, but I definitely want to focus on your cross stitching work! Let's start with what you do right now. What do your cross stitching projects look like at the moment?

ROKYO: Currently I've been exploring the different I guess grid sizes to find what works best for me. I've stitched on something small and now gotten myself into working on something bigger. I started out using yarn on plastic mesh and transitioned to thread and cloth. So far I love working with both! Each project starts out as a pixel drawing. It's so cool to turn digital into physical art. I've got plans to stitch up a few of my characters and maybe turn some of them into patches.

A cross stitch pattern of a tiger-looking character.

YESHUA: Oh wow, interesting to hear that you didn't start straight away with thread and cloth! I'd love to see what yarn and plastic mesh looks like as well if you have anything to share there! Also cool that everything starts as a pixel drawing, although that makes sense! We'll get back to your future plans as well, I definitely want to hear about that! First though, I noticed one particular project you've been sharing for some time on social media. What can you tell me about that one?

ROKYO: For sure I've got quite a few yarn projects finished that I can share.

A cross stitch pattern of a canine-looking character done with yarn and mesh.

As for the project I have been sharing around more recently, it's an experiment working with finding out how well certain pixel drawings end up size wise physically. It's a lot of trial and error till it's just right! It also helped me gauge just how long some projects might end up taking. It took me a little over a month to finish.

A cross stitch pattern of a canine-looking character done with thread and cloth.

I'm always thinking of new things to work on next and sometimes taking a long time on the same project is hard for me cause I just want to make more and more different things. But no matter how long it takes it's definitely worth it!

YESHUA: It looks like this project is pretty big in size! Is this cross stitch bigger than others you've done? And if so, is this why it took longer? Plus, what's the character you cross stitched there?

ROKYO: It's the biggest I've done so far with thread and cloth. I think it's also the most number of stitches I've done on one project so far. I'm sure if the cloth count was smaller it would take less time.

Timelapse of the progress of a cross stitch pattern of a canine-looking character done with thread and cloth.

Character wise, it's just a random design. Not many of the things made end up being permanent characters but some end up just clicking and I add to my permanent line up.

Some of the things I've stitched only have a line art done and the colors end up being whatever comes to mind. Kinda like a coloring book.

Some projects end up having the same base line work but different renditions of coloring are done.

YESHUA: Ah I see! It sounds like along with this being an enjoyable activity for you, a lot of your projects right now seem to be for you to explore what works best for you and refine your skills? Does that sound right or am I off the mark?

ROKYO: Yup! All exploring and learning right now to find out what's best. I still feel I have a lot to learn but that's half the fun!

YESHUA: That's great! It's what a hobby is all about. I also want to ask, how long have you been cross stitching for? When did you pick it up?

ROKYO: The 13th of this month [March 2025] marks two years since I've started stitching.

YESHUA: Oh wow! Well, with that second anniversary just passing, you did say you have some plans to do cross stitches of your characters and maybe make them into patches. What else can you tell me about those plans, and any others you may have for your future projects?

ROKYO: Yea I've got a few patterns done for my characters but still not a 100% on the patch thing, it's been suggested by a couple of people. I'll have to make some smaller things to test the idea out.

I think my biggest goal is to maybe end up having an online shop set up to sell some of the things I've made.

YESHUA: Ah I gotcha! Cross stitching is definitely a very unique medium that a lot of people probably don't think about here in the fandom, which is a big reason why it's so cool to see someone working on what's essentially fursona art, in this unique way. What kind of stuff exactly would you like to sell?

ROKYO: I'd mostly probably sell things made from the base patterns that I could make multiples of and a few one-offs.

YESHUA: When you say you'd sell stuff from base patterns, what do you mean exactly? Is it sort of like making a cross stitch pattern that can fit several characters? Like a ‘your character here’ sorta deal?

ROKYO: They would be made using the same line art but the coloring would be different for each one. Similar to how digital artists make base packs and people color them in.

Some would also just end up being the same if any of them ended up being popular.

YESHUA: Ah I see! Do you have any exact ideas about what kind of patterns you'd like to do? Or not quite yet?

ROKYO: I have a couple of feline and canine ones ready.

Collage of pixel bases; one for canine characters, one for feline characters.

Pixel renderings of a canine pattern base (left) and feline pattern base (right).

I plan on having a couple of dragons and some of the more common animals available also. I'd be open to doing votes or suggestions on what to add to the list.

YESHUA: That's a pretty good start! Sounds like you have some decent ideas! It'll definitely be neat to see more designs as you make them! Now, you said you've been doing cross stitching for two years now. Did you start right off the bat with furry designs? How did you get the idea to do furry designs?

ROKYO: In the past I've drawn and worked with a bit of furry related pixel artwork. I got a bit of different art mediums around the house. Eyeing my stash of yarn I just had to find something to do with it. So I looked up different things people do with yarn and came across it being used with plastic mesh. Just kinda took off from there.

A cross stitch pattern done with yarn and mesh.

YESHUA: Oh that's awesome! Glad that you could turn it into a hobby you enjoy so much! Well, it's been great chatting with you about all of this, it's a really neat artistic activity and I love the furry twist you've given it! Is there anything else about your cross stitching or anything else that you wanna talk about before we wrap it up? Plus, what can folks expect from you if they give you a follow?

ROKYO: I think that's all really. As for what people can expect from me, I try and post a picture every day of whatever I happen to be working on. It's a lot of fun to see each thing come to life!

CONVENTION CALENDAR

Hi everyone! It’s Yeshua here to bring you the Convention Calendar segment for the month of March! Going to furry events is always a pretty exciting time, so we want to bring you info about some of the biggest ones we can find! Before we start though, we are looking for a new host for this segment, so if you like checking out furry events happening all over the world, this could be for you! Just reach out to me or Carkas if you’re interested in writing this segment each month.

As of issue #315, we are in the middle of March which of course means some of the events are already done, but we keep the Con Calendar segment during most of the month until it’s time for the following month’s events!

Graphic with information for Vancoufur.

Kicking off March is Vancoufur 2025! As you may imagine, it’s happening in Vancouver, Canada, specifically at the Richmond Convention Centre from March 6-9. The theme this year is Tales of Treasure, so expect a lot of pirate-themed adventures and fun! Vancoufur has all the common staples of a furry convention including a Dealers Den and Artists Alley, dance competition, and fursuit parade, but other big events to look forward to include the murder mystery, nightly dances, a fursuit maid cafe, and much more! Plus, that doesn’t even cover all the panels and smaller events planned for the convention. Be sure to check out the full schedule to see what else there will be! It is worth noting that since Vancoufur is only five days out from when this is written – you will have to buy tickets at the door if you plan on going and did not pre-register. According to the convention’s website, the all-days-pass is $120 which will get you in all days. You also have the choice of buying a one day pass, with prices varying from $60 to $85 depending on the day. If you can’t make it in person, you can also consider Vancoufur’s digital option for attending online!

Graphic with information for Bewhiskered.

On the complete opposite side of North America, Bewhiskered 2025 is happening in Durham, North Carolina! You’ll be taking a trip back in time to when dinosaurs roamed the earth with the theme Prehistoria! From March 7-9, the Sheraton Imperial Hotel will play host to this east coast convention that’s gaining a lot of traction! Bewhiskered also boasts the usual Dealers Den and Artists Alley, dance competitions, DJs, a fursuit parade, and even a scavenger hunt! There are also a bunch of different events, from species-specific meets, to fursuiting events, art panels and games, and so much more! The Bewhiskered website even has a section separating a lot of the programming by these categories, which will definitely be helpful to find events you may like! Also because of how close Bewhiskered is from the time of writing this, pre-registration is closed, so if you want to go, you will need to register on-site.

Graphic with information for Fur the ‘More.

Staying along the east coast of the United States, Fur the ‘More is taking place at the same time as Bewhiskered, but at the Hilton Washington Dulles Airport! Get ready for an early taste of summer with the Beach Vacation! theme at FTM! Along with the marketplace and Artists Alley, you’ll have the chance to attend several kinds of panels, meets, as well as participate in things like escape rooms, games, and a whole lot more. There’s too much to cover here so be sure to check out Fur the More’s full schedule! If you haven’t already registered, please note that according to the convention’s website, online registration only went through January 31, and while there are prices for registering at the door, it may be limited if the attendance cap is met. It’s not clear what that limit is, so it’s probably a good idea to contact the convention to get info about whether on-site registration will be available.

We’re staying deep in North America, but we’re going back to Canada for Furnal Equinox happening from March 21-23 at the Westin Harbour Castle in downtown Toronto! We hope you’re ready to bring along some scary energy because the theme is Monsters in Toronto, which you’ll definitely notice in some of the programming! FE has a really good mix of panels and events that are either furry-specific, interest-specific, or a mix of both! So just like with the others, it’s highly recommended that you read up on the full schedule! You’re sure to find at least a few events that will interest you! Some of the bigger plans for the convention include a masquerade, the dance competition, DJ performances, and “Pas Le Choix de Danser” – which is like floor wars at other conventions! As of writing this, it seems like you can still register online for $90 to access the convention the entire weekend, but there will be day passes available, although the convention stresses that these may be limited. Regardless of when you read this, if you haven’t registered, be sure to check out the latest information about registering for Furnal Equinox!

FURRY QUOTE

Howdy, all! Tide again. I hope you all are well. I have seen a lot of hopelessness around me lately as a result of current events. Friends have mentioned to me that they are not sure they have a future anymore. I wanted to address that today using a quote from one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, Uncle Iroh from Avatar the Last Airbender.

A quote by Uncle Iroh.

”In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of inner strength.”

~Uncle Iroh

As a scientist, the state of things right now is quite frankly, terrifying. Many research positions have frozen hiring due to a lack of funding, and existing positions are having to question whether they will be able to continue paying graduate students and funding research. With such an uncertain career outlook, I have to remind myself to be hopeful, because as Uncle Iroh says, hope is something that comes from within. Others can give you encouragement or even a path forward, but only you can give yourself hope. The fact that each and every one of you has made it this far in life, despite all of the hardships that I am sure you have faced; for being a furry, for being queer, and just for being alive, I know how strong you are. I know how the present may seem the worst it has ever been, that things could spiral at any given moment, but give yourself hope that everything will be okay. If it ever isn't, remind yourself that if you are strong enough to give yourself hope, you are strong enough to make it through.

I know I have written a lot lately about being strong, about remaining hopeful, and just doing what you can from day to day, but I think regular reminders about keeping yourself moving are most important in times like these. Remember, you don’t have to be running towards your future or even walking. Just crawling is enough. Maybe you need to rest sometimes, take a breath, collect yourself. But the worst thing you can do right now is be complacent. Do not just sit and watch this happen and try to dig yourself out. Do not let them throw dirt over you and wait until you are buried to do something. With each bit of dirt step up higher. Eventually the mound meant to bury you will be the hill you stand upon. It will be the very way that you move forward.

⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰

That’s it for this week’s Furry Quote. Now that you’re all caught up, think of ways to give yourself hope. Of ways that you can keep yourself moving, inch by inch, and when you have? Move.

Do you have a quote or topic you’d like us to discuss next? Feel free to submit content by emailing furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com, or you can directly message me on Instagram.

Thanks for stopping by, and until next time.

All the best,
-Tide
